Chocolate Pumpkin Cake

Dear Friends:

The recipe this month is one that can be served at Thanksgiving, Chocolate Pumpkin Cake.

This is a rich dense chocolate cake with pumpkin puree in the batter and topped with a cream icing and a chocolate glaze. It is every bit as good as the Red Velvet Cake Made with Beets – chocolatey, dense, and moist, and the two icings just make it better.

This is a special occasion cake, like Thanksgiving. A dessert to serve to those who (who right, not that, because it is a person?) don’t like pumpkin pie. How weird can you be to not like pumpkin pie. You know we have the best recipe for Pumpkin Pie, it has a pumpkin custard filling. Topped with whipped cream it is wonderful. Even better for breakfast the next day!

The recipes is on the website https://www.scoopnweigh.com/recipe/pumpkin-pie/Or you can pick up a paper copy in the store.

Now the selling bit. We have been restocking the cookware wall.

These are mini clamp jars for spices or small bits of things that you need easy access to.

What is this? A smaller potato masher? Yes, but not just for potatoes; also for mashed avocados on toast or egg salad. This is a single serving masher for when there is just you and only a small bowl. Also when you don’t want the big cleanup.

Finally we have reusable freezer bags. These are heavy duty plastic bags with a yellow snap clip.

Please note the snap clip means you can steal a few cookies at a time and no one will know!

See you at Scoop N’ Weigh, the Candy Store for Grownups, the masters of stealing cookies!

P.S. There are two things I love ordering – paper napkins and greeting cards. (There are really a lot of other things I like to order, such as aprons and cookware.) I like these things because of the sarcastic saying that so describe my life. Last summer I laughed my way through this line of beverage napkins.

They were suppose to be for Christmas, but are too good to keep packed away, so out they went.

Are you thinking about stocking stuffers yet? Or tuckaways for when you need a quick gift?

P.P.S. I should also tell you the Chocolate Pumpkin Cake is a recipe we have highlighted before. I wanted to give you a recipe for Root Vegetable Gratin, but after making it, I was just not impressed. It was probably the parsnips, ugh!

Whatever, the decision was made to focus on something really yummy, so you get accolades. Not grumblings, as you watch people “eating with long teeth”, a saying that means picking at their food.

P.P.P.S We have been asked several times for Bread Scorers and I found them. These are little knives with a small blade to score the unbaked bread dough so it has mark or design. Like this.

Or you can do complicated things like this.

The Bread Scorers are at the cash desk. They came in a package of six, but we are selling them individually. Let me clarify, they came in a package of six, but why would you need more than one? And there is a sharp blade, and taking them out of the package to sell is just too dangerous. So ask the staff and they will get you one.

P.P.P.P.S. I used the word ugh above; did you know there is a word to describe words that imitate sound – onomatopoeia. (Remember that word the next time you play Scrabble!) Examples of these words are tut, zzz, yuck and hmm. It still doesn’t change the taste of parsnips, to me they are yucky.
